My friend and I went to the Christmas party last night and we had a good time. Unfortunately, we had some trouble getting home. We were all snuggled up in the back of my friends car with the heater blasting and he was driving us back to his house when it happened - a mishap in traffic caused us to get hit by a big truck. Anyone who has been involved in an accident knows that when it gets dark outside, drivers tend to drive slower. It is unfortunate that my friend got picked from this slowdown but when he got picked from behind, boom - we were in for a long ride. We were sitting in the back of his car and he was smashed against the steering wheel. We could hear screaming from passengers in other cars and I couldn't see anything except for a big cloud of smoke. When the smoke cleared, we looked around to see if there were any injuries in our car or in any of the cars around us - fortunately there weren't. My friend had a few cuts and bruises but he was able to walk away from it without any major injuries. We were lucky. And because we were lucky, I thought I'd share with you a little something that can be used as a reminder to us all not to live in our cars, but to live for Christ and to stay healthy. In the car accident, my friends car was totaled and not let me tell you... it was a pretty expensive day at the mechanic's office. But part of the damage wasn't his car - a tree branch had fallen on his backseat, crushing it and crushing his friend in the process. The doctors have told him that he will have severe nerve damage from the accident and he may never walk normally again. He will have to wear a brace on his back for the rest of his life. That's a pretty big price to pay just to sit in a car. Because I had my seat belt on, I only had a few scratches and bruises - but that could have been a lot worse. He has a constant reminder of what can happen from those 20 minutes he chose to spend in his car rather than doing something more worthwhile, like going Christmas shopping. Of course, I chose not to do anything more worthwhile as well - but it could have been worse. I could have lost my life or I could have never known the joy of sharing this Christmas with my family. I always knew it was dangerous to be in the car but never did I realize just how dangerous it really is. So, if you're reading this and you're listening to the radio, eating a burger, or maybe texting your friends - just take a second and think about what could happen if that car was totaled. It's pretty scary - so don't take any risks when you get in the car. Probably not, but maybe... The thought behind this article is for people to understand that they should not spend more time in their cars than necessary. cfa1e77820
